This is a film poster of the film called 'Letters to Juliet' starring Amanda Seyfried. They are advertising the film to their target audience in which they could post the posters in bilboards, bus stops, etc.
In terms of the image, the poster clearly shows that the film is all about love and romance. Another point that I could make is that Amanda Seyfried is also famous for romance movies which could draw their target audience to watch this film.
The main image of this poster is most likely to be seen first due to the daring eye contact that Amanda Seyfried provides to the audience. Due to the eye contact, she could be attracting both genders of male and female. However, in my point of view, it actually looks like that she is attracting more males than females to watch this film because of the innocence yet pure form of sexuality that she provides. The actress seems to be charming yet humble as she seems to hide her smile lightly. We could also say that she is secretive because of the envelope that she is holding in which she is about to wet the tip of the envelope so that the envelope is to be remaine closed until the receiver obtains it. The landscape of the poster has a touch of old yet environmental scene in a countryside that could relate to the actual setting of the film. The poster objectifies a closeup of Amanda's face in which she appears to be the protagonist of the film. The lighting of the poster is very warm and soft that suggests a romantic genre. In this poster, it seems that Amanda is implying a woman role in the society. The actress looks very wholesome as if she is actually THE Lady Juliet from Shakespeare's most famous romantic heroine. Because of the prop that she is holding, it shows that she is a typical feminine, representing to look beautiful and soft, as she writes love letters to her lover. The image at the bottom which is placed on the back of the envelope connotates enigma to romance because this leads the audience to wonder who they are, and why they are added in there. Their actions suggests love and sweetness in which the two may be exchanging letters from one another.
The choice of language in this poster in somewhat soft and touching for the audience. The tagline "WHAT IF YOU HAD A SECOND CHANCE TO FIND TRUE LOVE?" states that its a rhetorical question as it leads the audience to answer the question themselves. This question catches the audience's attention because of the word "YOU" that involves the reader to question themselves also. The tagline indicates a strong sense of romance which could intrigue the audience particularly those who are in a relationship or interested in romantic movies. The Tiltle of the film 'Letter to Juliet' links well in the conotations of romance due to the name 'Juliet'. This refers back to Shakespeare who is famous for writting love stories such as 'Romeo & Juliet', that may appeal to many audience who enjoys to watch a romance genre, but also to those who likes Shakespeare.
The colour that is added in this poster is completly full of flesh tones and blonde. Amanda is represented to be blonde that could imply a mixture of sexually promiscuous, "bimbo", lacking of academic intelligence, attractive, etc. However, this film is challenging the conventions of blonde because the actress here seems to be intelligent and full of knowledge since she is able to write letters sensibly. Also, her role tends to be wholesome as she comes to help an old woman to search for her long lost Italian loved-one. The warm flesh toned colours on the background seems blend well with her hair colour suggesting that she may have fallen inlove with Italy and the people she stays in-contact with. The background of this poster looks like a painting of watercolours. This could imply the conventions of an Italian person because they love to paint. Her eyes seems to be a strong green which suggests how she envy people and the vegetation.
For my Ancillary product (poster), I should make sure that the main character(s) is placed right at the centre of the poster to grab the attention of my target audience. I should also consider having a tagline to support the film to intrigue the audience what the film could be about, without giving away too much.
