Using Photoshop to edit my Magazine Cover and Film Poster

Another Photoshoot
I have taken another photoshoot for my magazine cover because I didn't like the idea of only using just one actor on my magazine cover because it's doesn't look like its a drama/romantic film, which could confuse the audience. The location here is taken at the park which is one of the main location in the theatrical trailer.

Attempt on Film Magazine Cover
I have followed the normal codes and conventions of a magazine by adding the masthead, barcode and price, main heading and subheadings.
Compare the image to the original, I have improved its colour and made the lips brighter and redder, so that the image doesnt wash out from the background. I also change the colour of the masthead to white because I feel that there's too much red on the layout. I feel that I could add more subheadings to this magazine cover to attract more audience from buying this magazine.

The Hourglass of Love Class Feedback
Class feedback on my theatrical trailer:
· Some clips go on for a long period of time
· The basketball scene and the Facebook scene is too long
· Make some of the clips shorter
· Make certain clips a powerful clip to signify the theatrical trailer
· Make the ending better
· Some clips are slightly too long
· Your trailer is giving too much away
· Cut a little out of the Facebook conversation. Keep the last question and delete the whole conversation.
· Use fade to blacks during the arguments to suggest time passing.
· Text: “But of course, you can’t change the past” – delete “but of course”
These are some suggestion for improvement that my class did during the peer assessment. As you can see from above, they worry that some clips are far too long, which may not attract my target audience on watching the film. In this case, I have to cut out some bits of the basketball scene and Facebook scene just so it doesn’t give too much away on what is going to happen. I also like the idea of having jump cuts fade to black during the quarrel scene to suggest that their argument is getting too much that it’s becoming unclear. I could also add voice over on some scenes so that the whole trailer doesn’t just contain background music.
The majority of the class believe that my theatrical trailer is stuck between proficient and excellent. To be able to reach a full excellent mark, I must follow the suggestions that they have given me and use these ideas for improvement. One person said that my mise en scene is just basic however; I believe that my mise en scene is just right for my genre because romance/drama aims for reality. I also spotted that the first scene and the last scene is unclear because it’s too dark and pixelated. I may have to do this scene again due to lighting problems and also the actress seems to be smiling as she was about to get ran over. I have to make sure that my theatrical trailer is less than two minutes long as I have noticed that my current trailer is over the time limit.

Experimenting Magazine Covers
As you can see from above, I have been experimenting with these two images. I feel that the close up picture of my model is more successful than the other one because it looks more professional and the white background on the left washes out the main image. The colour of the masthead is successful because it stands out the most on the canvas, so that people will know straightaway what magazine this is.
