The opening scene begins to a train passing by which takes the audience to the main actor Robert Pattinson, which is supported by a voiceover of himself. This is used to make the audience become intrigued and find out what the problem is. The scene then fades to black to a close up shot of Pattinson as he looks to his right seeing a bunch of people fighting, which his face seems to be bold as he tries to stop the fight. His boldness is emphasises with a low angle shot to show his superior as he manage to knock one guy out, which leads him to be arrested in a medium shot as he was caught looking like he was in trouble. The viewers, especially female may find this interesting and exciting because many female find his boldness attractive. As Pattinson tries to talk to a mysterious man, a close up shot of him touching his shoulder is used which has lead him in a slow motion dropping his face on the ground.
Another face to black is used with a strong loud non diegetic sound effect is added to create tension to the viewers, which the viewers sees him in an office with a mysterious polished man sitting on his chair that suggests superiority. However, a shoulder shot is used as if Pattinson doesn't care about this person as he shows his mean attitude to this mysterious man. This then leads the viewers that this enigmatic man is actually his father, which he doesn't seem to like. This is emphasised by the huge different in looks as Pattinson looks more ragged and his father looks too rich and clean. The following scenes shows his rebelliousness with a low angle shot of himself playing with the cigarette on a bowl, which he suggested that it was an ash tray.
The non diegetic music changes its mood to a more louder and happier beat as the woman Emilie de Ravin comes out of the car. This is also supported by the use of typography as if she is the one who will change Pattinson's life to a better one. As the scenes goes on, Pattinson is beginning to have feelings for her, which is emphasised when the camera blurs from Ravin's face to Pattinson during their lecture. There are also a few close up shots of the two kissing and hugging to add to the theme of love and drama to the trailer. This intrigues the audience to watch the film especially to those who are inlove and are looking for inspiration.
